We're expanding!

We are excited to announce a major expansion of our production facilities, which startet back in January and will run to October 2025. This 1,700 m² project is a significant step in our mission to provide briquetting solutions.

The expansion includes a new assembly hall equipped with a travers crane and four swing cranes, as well as upgraded testing facilities with three different press sizes. To enhance sustainability, solar panels will be installed on the roof of the new building.
We are also improving working conditions and logistics. Our canteen will be expanded by 80 m², and new storage areas will provide better protection for test materials and raw materials.

TL BYG A/S is the main contractor for this project, and we look forward to sharing more updates along the way!

Biocoal for a sustainable future – our briquetting technology in Europe’s largest torrefaction plant

At C.F. Nielsen, we are proud to be part of a groundbreaking project that supports the transition to sustainable energy. In April 2025, Europe’s largest torrefaction plant will begin operations in Joensuu, Finland, producing 60,000 metric tons of biocoal annually. Developed by NextFuel AB and operated by Joensuu Biocoal, the facility integrates our advanced mechanical briquetting presses as a key step in the production process.

Biocoal is an energy-rich, carbon-neutral alternative to fossil coal. Through torrefaction, biomass is heated in a low-oxygen environment at 200–300°C, removing moisture and volatile organic compounds. The result is a dry, high-energy-density material ideal for industrial applications such as coal-fired power plants, cement factories, and steel mills.

To ensure efficient and high-density briquette production, the plant uses nine C.F. Nielsen BP6510 HD briquetting presses. These machines, equipped with 75 kW motors, generate an impressive pressure of 2000 kg/cm², producing briquettes with a density of at least 1.0 g/cm³. With an output of 9 metric tons per hour, the fully automated system aims for 24/7 operation, meeting the plant’s high production targets.

Our briquetting technology plays a vital role in making biocoal a practical and scalable green energy solution. By transforming biomass residues into compact, easy-to-handle, and energy-dense briquettes, we help industries reduce CO₂ emissions without modifying existing infrastructure.

At C.F. Nielsen, we are committed to providing high-quality briquetting solutions that drive sustainability forward. If you're looking for efficient and reliable briquetting technology, feel free to contact us to learn more about how we can support your green energy transition as well.
