Pine trees are a part of the softwood family. It is a fast-growing evergreen, coniferous resinous tree, that mainly grows in the Northern Hemisphere.
Pine wood is one of the major wood types when it comes to timber and wood pulp and is being used in among others: furniture, window frames, paneling, floors, and roofing. Due to the excessive use, there is a good number of pine shavings, sawdust, and offcuts available for other purposes, and here briquetting is a good possibility as pine burns cleanly and consistently with a high calorific value. This, combined with low ash content, means that pine wood possesses some of the best attributes for making high-quality briquettes with a CF Nielsen briquetting press.
CF Nielsen has been involved in a great number of briquetting projects involving pine wood, and we have thorough experience with this wood species. We have sold numerous projects both for industrial and consumer applications. Normally good quality briquettes can be produced without adding any binders, and normally the result is a great, bright-looking briquette with high density for efficient, warm, and visually appealing fires.
In the U.K. there is a large market for producing and selling bedding for horses. Most of the bedding is made from shavings from softwood. The shavings have to be clean from dust, so the dust is removed during the processing of the shavings.
One of our customers in the U.K. has decided to utilize the left over dust from the production of shavings to produce briquettes for consumers.
